Amazing Custom 3-BR South Carolina Barndominium

Here’s another special feature on a dream home come true, this special family built an amazing South Carolina Barndominium. Built by the Matthews Brothers Builders, the home was customized the way they wanted it. Located just outside Columbia, the home measures between 1250-1300 square feet.  The floor plan features three bedrooms, a bathroom, an open-concept living, dining, and kitchen area, closet, and pantry. The 8×40 feet porch makes this living space homier, as well.

Alternative home options are growing due to the wavering economy in some parts of the country. And most recently, the idea of barn houses have been very appealing due to its low cost, and even lower maintenance, with the promise of years of happy living.

And by the time you read this post, you probably have already also read about tons of different articles, or heard testimonies from barndo owners and even builders about barn to home conversion. And for sure, they all say it’s worth it! Let’s check out how awesome this South Carolina Barndominium turned out.

Barndominiums originally began as low building cost alternative to homes. But, like houses, they now come in many options- from simple to lavish, extravagant, and luxurious ones. Your budget is the limit!

However, there are a lot of ways that traditional homes differ from barndominiums in terms of cost:

  • Barndos can be built with less time required than traditional homes
  • These could be (as much as) half the cost of building a traditional home because the materials are cheaper
  • Unlike fiberglass insulation, foam insulation in barndos ensure thermal protection, making it more energy-efficient
  • Flexible internal space allows the home owner to place walls wherever they please.

In addition, the savings you get from opting home-converted-barns doesn’t stop in building costs. It goes on to maintenance savings, as well. Unlike conventional houses that are usually built with wood, steel exteriors are resistant to rot, mold, and termites.

Needless to say, the repainting costs are not significant. Talking about insurance savings, steel structures do not easily burn and withstand earthquakes and tornadoes much more likely than wooden structures so you can count on lower insurance rates. Its durability withstands normal wear and tear.

The property isn’t huge, yet it is well planned to fit their requirements that make space work. Yes, you do not need to get a huge barndominium to start off. In fact, start with a small one and see what works for you. Over time, expand your property. Maybe the family could add a garage in the future, or another structure to accommodate a bigger crowd.

Expanding your property adds to its value. Remember, when you bought the property by square foot? It’s the same principle when you sell, not saying you would still want to after finally achieving that dream home. But just in case.

Furthermore, lifestyle changes do require huge changes in the home you live in. Barndominiums are built for that. It can easily be convertible to any space you want, from a garage into office or workshop, or even another turn it into another relaxation area, there is no limit! And while your family grows, you can even save against moving expenses. Expand your property and you even add value to your home! Wouldn’t that be more awesome?

And just like any conventional home, barndominiums are customizable. You can tap on your local contractors about customized-building your barndos. This Columbia, South Carolina Barndominium was built by Matthews Brothers Builders for the family’s preferences.
